MAGNESIUM

Low Magnesium levels can increase the risk of infertility in both men and women, cause an increased risk of miscarriage, and also contribute to things like PMS and cramps.

But here are some more reasons why it’s so essential to hormonal health:

🌿Controls FSH
-FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) is the hormone responsible for telling our ovaries to start maturing an egg to prepare for ovulation

🌿Calms nervous system and HPA axis
-If we’re in a chronically stressed state, our HPA (hypothalamus pituitary adrenal) axis gets put into over drive. The main job of this axis is to supply our body with things like cortisol and adrenaline. While the HPA axis is an important part of our nervous system, too much use of it can lead to hormonal imbalance.

🌿Supports thyroid function
-Healthy thyroid function is essential for ovulation and progesterone production (and we know how important those two things are!)

🌿Helps stabalize blood sugar
-You can’t have balanced hormones without balanced blood sugar. If our adrenals are working to produce cortisol to help bring chronically unstable blood sugar levels up, they’re not helping to produce sex hormones.

🌿Assists in liver detoxification
-Our liver is ESSENTIAL for balanced hormones, since it’s in charge of metabolizing them and preparing them for elimination. Overburdened liver detox pathways prevent proper metabolism.

🌿Supports sleep
-Sleep is one of the most important aspects of fertility health. Magnesium promotes restful sleep by keeping our cortisol levels in check and calming the nervous system.

🌿Anti-inflammatory
-Keeping inflammation down when suffering from things like PCOS and endometriosis is key. Magnesium can also assist in implantation and the IVF process due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Despite being so important, magnesium is also one of the most easily depleted minerals and is hard to get enough of from food because of this. I recommend taking magnesium in supplement form, and my favorite are @livepristine mag bicarbonate and @jigsawhealth MgSRT (Link in bio for both of these!)

ant to know my favorite supplement?!

These different types of magnesium can be used to improve energy production, decrease anxiety, help with stress, quality sleep, bowel regularity, and more.

But you’ll want to read the post in order to find out all of the details including which type of magnesium should be used for which desired outcome!

There are also some great combo products out there too!

The MIRACLE mineral!

Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in our body. Perhaps this helps us understand why we do not want to be deficient in this critical mineral.

The majority of us are deficient in magnesium. It is estimated that at least 80% of us are! This is such an incredible opportunity to support health with food as medicine or supplementation if needed (even if for a season).

Here are just a few benefits of what magnesium does for us via all of those chemical reactions it’s involved in:

✔️DNA synthesis
✔️Muscle contractions
✔️Blood pressure regulation
✔️Protein synthesis
✔️Insulin metabolism
✔️Nerve transmission
✔️Reproduction

Magnesium is essentially a critical mineral for our health and can impact so much including:

✔️heart disease
✔️diabetes
✔️attention
✔️ADHD
✔️mood
✔️PMS
✔️headaches
✔️achy/twitchy legs and muscles
✔️insomnia
✔️constipation
✔️Raynaud’s syndrome
✔️bone strength
✔️dental health & cavities
✔️nutrient deficiencies
✔️glaucoma
✔️behavioral disorders
✔️hypertension
✔️& more

I try to eat foods rich in magnesium, as well as I supplement. I personally notice a difference when I do. I take @seeking.healthoptimal magnesium and also use the magnesium glycinate powder in my adrenal cocktails. @earthleywellness also makes an amazing magnesium lotion!

*More to come! Can’t fit everything about magnesium in one post. See slides for more info.

I am not a “pill for every ill” kind of girl, or supplement for every ill for that matter. But I think most people are truly magnesium deficient and would benefit from increased levels! If you have signs of deficiency, I personally would look into it.

Not medical advice.
